Oh no! Something went wrong on Windows 11

Post by ElMotador89 »

Hello,

I have multiple VMs which work just fine on my previous computer running Windows 10. I've copied them by copying the full folder of each VM to my new Windows 11 PC and haven't changed any configuration and am running the same version of VirtualBox. However none of the copied VMs work and I get the same “Oh no!(…)” error message. I've tried enabling the 3D acceleration graphics as suggested in multiple threads but it didn't work. I've attached the logs of one of the VMs. Any idea what might help?

Thank you for your help.

Thomas

Host Hyper-V is enabled, which happens all the time when going to 11. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active)

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response. I've performed the many steps detailed in the link attached and link contained but I get the same error. I'm not sure what indicates that the Hyper-V is enabled in the logs so I've attached them again. Any idea?

Are you sure you copied this VM by copying the folder? Because the log indicates otherwise: you have a VM name which is different from the VDI name, which is a classic indicator that the VDI did not start off as part of this VM.

Another thing I notice is that the VM is running Guest Additions 7.0.10 on a 7.0.2 host software. Another classic error: the GAs should not be newer than the host software.

Also, this error message that you refer to: "Oh no, something went wrong". That is a Windows error message, so I'm not clear that we've established any VirtualBox fault yet. That's the sort of error you might get from Windows on a hardware change, perhaps a different CPU or disk controller, or incorrectly reconstructed VM settings.

[Just saw your last response - I'll leave this post for posterity anyway]
