How to reinstall from backup

I had 4 snapshots, I wanted to revert to snapshot 3 but inadvertedlly deleted it...Fortunatelly I had a backup of the .vdi... Unfortunatelly I can't reinstall from it. I get A hard disk with UUID ... is already registered. Is there a way for me to reinstall the .vdi?

VBox Manage has a utility called "VdiClone" (see the Manual for more info). It will make a copy of a vdi file, but give it a new UUID. I haven't worked with snapshots, so am not sure if this is sufficient for what you're wanting to do.
