Cannot solve start problem of Virtual box: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Post by enorix »

Hi,

I have already tried different ways to solve my problem, but non works. I have installed Virtual Box and tried to run a virtual box (I have tried a Windows 10 and also Ubuntu ISO).
I am getting the following error message when starting the virtual box:

Code: Select all

Call to WHvSetupPartition failed: ERROR_SUCCESS (Last=0xc000000d/87) (VERR_NEM_VM_CREATE_FAILED).

Fehlercode:E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Komponente:ConsoleWrap
Interface:IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
Tried already the following:
- RUN > CMD > bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off - reboot --> Doesn't solve problem
- Core isolation in Windows Defender is OFF
- All relevant settings in windows features are disabled (e.g. Sandbox is off, windows hypervision plattfrom is off...)
- I have no other virtualization software installed and hyper-v is not running.
- I have no other antivir software installed (besides Defender)
Nothing helps :-(

I have a Surface book 3 with Windows 10 HOME (64bit) (Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 - 1065G7).
The virtualization is enabled (checked it in taskmanager - performance. There it is active)
Does anyone have a tipp what else can be done?

THANK YOU!
Best regards

SOLVED: Cannot solve start problem of Virtual box: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Hi,
solved: I have downloaded the version VirtualBox 6.1.14 platform packages.
Previously I installed version VirtualBox 6.0.24 which didn't work.

Maybe it was solved, maybe not. Look on the status (bottom) line of the VM: if it shows a green turtle then you have Hyper-v enabled on the host, which would also have been the cause of the original problem with 6.0.24.

VirtualBox will run best with Hyper-v fully disabled. Related FAQ: FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests (posts 2 and 3).

Any further discussion will require a zipped VBox.log.
