VM won't run

Post by Vernie »

I have been using virtualbox for many years. In the last couple of week however I have been unable to run it.

When trying to run my VM I keep getting the following error code:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine XP.
Not in a hypervisor partition (HVP=0) (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE).
AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS) (VERR_SVM_DISABLED).
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

I have tried to enable AMD-V in my bios. I specifically enabled a setting called IOMMU in my BIOS as this was the only thing close to being relevant to AMD-V.
After enabling the setting and rebooting my VM still does not work

You will have to web-search your motherboard to find the appropriate setting. Motherboard BIOSes have not settled on a common name.

IOMMU is not it. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input%E2% ... ement_unit)

AMD might call it SVM.
