6.1.14 + 5.8 + win10 guest aborts [SOLVED]

I was happy to see the changelog of 6.1.14 say it was again compatible with my 5.8 kernel, but after the upgrade, starting the win10 guest aborts with

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Win10.

The VM session was aborted.

I was hoping to see my beloved win10 desktop again instead?
I'm running a self-compiled vanilla kernel (5.8.6). Am I missing some necessary configuration switch for virtualbox 6.1.14 to work with 5.8?

Installing Extensionpack 6.1.14 fixed the problem!

fwiw Extension Pack version always has to match the Virtualbox version.
