6.1.14 error in supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime

Post by NickP »

After upgrading from 6.1.12 to 6.1.14 I can no longer run a Mint 20 VM I have. When I try to start the VM, I get an error dialog which has the title above and also says:

Code: Select all

RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912

The Virtualbox kernel modules do not match this version of Virtualbox. The installation of Virtualbox was apparently not successful. Please try completely uninstalling and reinstalling Virtualbox.

where: supR3HardenedMainInitRuntime what: 4
VERR_VM_DRIVER_VERSION_MISMATCH (-1912) - The installed support driver doesn't match the version of the user.
I verified the SHA256 hashes of the downloaded 6.1.14 install EXE and extpack file with those on the Virtualbox website, and they match. I also did a complete uninstall and reinstall as suggested, but the error persisted. I then uninstalled 6.1.14 and reinstalled 6.1.12, and with the older version of Virtualbox the VM runs successfully.

Try uninstalling 6.1.12, reboot the host, then install 6.1.14 by right-clicking the installer and Run As Administrator.
