Can't boot any of my VMs

Post by Dimitrisv »

Hello VBox gurus,

I am facing exactly the same issue with the previous user. See where exactly my machine hungs in order to establish that it is the same issue. Please find attached the log as well.

Initially I freaked out thinking that there is something going on with the particular VM. I tried booting a ubuntu VM, same issue.

Then I thought to uninstall and re-install the Vbox and create a new VM. Although it appears that the uninstall retained the previous VM (so I could see them after the fresh install) I tried to create a new VM. During windows installation it hangs.

What had changed in my kit (apart from the MS updates)?

1. I updated docker. - I removed it but the problem persists.
2. Add Local by Flywheel. - I removed it also the problem persists.

Please help!

Thank you!

I split your post into a new topic, we'll leave the other topic for that OP.

This is correct. Guests remain when you upgrade/reinstall Virtualbox, just like uninstalling & reinstalling Word does not delete your .doc files.

No hardening issues, hardening log has exit code 0.

Hyper-V is enabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active)

Thank you very much indeed Scott.

I followed your advice to run the bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off and now it works fine!

Just a note though. When I first run into the issue yesterday, I uninstalled the hyper-V role from my PC yet it didn't work.
Just out of curiosity, why the command you suggested worked?

Keep up the good work!

Best,

Dimitris

The command disables Hyper-V already inside the Windows Boot Manager, which runs before the Windows kernel and drivers are started.
