First of all when I install VirtualBox-6.1.12-139181-Win.exe that I got from the main oracle download page under 64-bit the only options I get for making VM's are 32-bit options despite the fact that I am on a Windows 10 64-bit computer. The second problem comes when I try to install Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.1.12-139181.vbox-extpack which I also got directly from the main Oracle downloads page it gives me the error Failed to install the Extension Pack C:/Users/Hawkx1/Downloads/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-6.1.12-139181.vbox-extpack.

The installer failed with exit code 1: VBoxExtPackHelperApp.exe: error: Membership in the Administrators group is required to perform this action.

First off why can't I create 64-bit VM's and second of all why can I not install the extension pack?

(Sorry for the ranting tone Virtualbox has been giving me issues all night)

See I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.

The main Virtualbox window must be Run As Administrator to install the Extension Pack. The EP is installed inside the Virtualbox installation folder, which on Windows hosts defaults to "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox", which needs Admin permissions to write in.

When you run Virtualbox as admin, you won't get access to your regular Downloads folder. Move the EP file to Public Downloads.

After the main Virtualbox window is open as Admin, go to the File Menu, Preferences, Extensions, and install the EP from Public Downloads.

Once you get the EP installed, close all Virtualbox processes for a minute to clear away Run As Admin. Virtualbox should not be Run As Admin to run normal guests.
