I dont really understand this error. I upgraded last time from the same in-application message that a new version was available.
Cannot upgrade to 6.1.12

Re: Cannot upgrade to 6.1.12
You have the Ubuntu (*) VirtualBox fork installed. The fork is built from the open sources - we have no control over it, and don't support it here. Either download and install the controlled version (after purging the fork version), or go to the Ubuntu forums for support.
(*) Or whatever distro you use.

Re: Cannot upgrade to 6.1.12
I have no clue how I got an ubuntu forked version. Didnt even know it exists.
I am using MX which has nothing to do with ubuntu and dont use their repos.
Thanks for the info I will install from scratch.

Re: Cannot upgrade to 6.1.12
Thank you very much for the suggestion; It was very helpful.
I really dislike the entire Ubuntu thing and would prefer to work with Oracle Virtualbox.
I purged the fork version virtualbox-6.0 package with dpkg and installed the latest from the virtualbox website as you suggested.
Unfortunately my virtualmachines now doesnt work properly and that baffles me.
Seems like the fork works better as the Oracle version now cannot find either my soundcard or my usb devices anymore. Soundcards are configured and worked perfectly on the fork version and nothing was changed. I made sure I install the USB extension pack also.
It seems the Oracle version is a brick w.r.t usb and soundcards ?
Is that why they forked it ?
Soundcard on Virtual Machine 1: ACH 97 ; Worked the best on the fork for demanding audio of all the cards with no x-runs, now doesnt work at all anymore;
Soundcard on Virtual Machine 2: Intel HD Audio; General purpose use; Used to work on fork now doesnt work at all anymore with the Oracle version of Virtualbox.
and so on..
Only networking still works. All else stopped working.
Why cant the Oracle Virtualbox version work with these soundcards or are they Ubuntu specific? Doesnt seem so as I can find them in the sound card dropdown menu.
Must I reinstall all drivers in the virtualmachines again in able to use Oracle Virtualbox ?
Why this discrepancy and how do I get my used to be working sound and usb to work with the Oracle version of Virtualbox ?
There must be something I miss, but I cannot see why Oracle Virtualbox is incapable of handling USB and Sound that worked perfectly in the Ubuntu Virtualbox Fork.

Re: Cannot upgrade to 6.1.12
I'm not certain about the sound problem. Be sure your guest is using the default sound card the New Guest Wizard set up from the beginning.
USB may require the correct Extension Pack, also available form Virtualbox. EP version must match the Virtualbox version.
