recover vdi files

Hi.

Recently i lost my virtual machines. I used photorec program to recover all data possible and the size of the vdi files i recover is much smaller than the original size (a few MB when should be several GB).

Is it possible recover the vdi files from a formatted disk?

No, unfortunately, it is not possible. Data recovery programs don't do well recovering very large files. You might be able to recover individual files from within the guest disk file but you'd have to look through whatever the recovery program came up with using a hex editor to find what you need.

The only way to get this horse back into the barn is to keep it from escaping in the first place. In other words, back up your data before it goes bad.
