Why can't I select Graphical Controller from VB settings other than VBoxSVGA?

I can only use VBoxSVGA. If I select other options I will get errors as Invalid settings detected.

I am trying to use VMSVGA which is a very cool option to choose for resolving the screen resizing which I read here. The article is based for Oracle Linux but I use Ubuntu 20.04. Does that mean that option doesn't work in my distro?

I am having weird screen resolution in Windows 10 guest OS. I never had a screen resolution issue when I used VMware. The solution mentioned in the above article might have solved my issue, but it doesn't look like it will since I can't select other graphics controller. I want to know WHY? Any fix to my screen resolution! Any suggestion/ideas are welcomed.

Code: Select all

VB version: 6.1.10_Ubuntu r138449
Ubuntu 20.04

First, the host is not relevant.

VMSGVA is for Linux guests. VBoxSVGA is for Windows guests. Using the wrong controller for the wrong guest will (a) get the "invalid settings" message, (b) not do anything useful since the respective platforms have different drivers. Also I'm not aware that VMSVGA gives you anything that VBoxSVGA doesn't.

The final bit of bad news: you aren't even a VirtualBox user. That "_Ubuntu" part of the version tells us that this is a third party build from the open sources, hence not supported on the official VirtualBox forums. Either install the official version from the downloads area here, or you need to visit the Ubuntu forums to get support for their software.
