how to delete vbox interfaces from ifconfig?

Post by iansane »

Hi,

This started in the "Using VirtualBox" forum as basic virtual network questions but has turned into a Ubuntu 8.04 specific question I think so I'm posting here.

I need to start fresh but don't know how.

I used the instructions in the VB manual to set up br0 and vbox0 through vbox3 before realizing that the normal bridge method for host interface doesn't work with my wireless card.

I found some other possible options here

http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=9853

and here

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=91370

Now the problem is that I can't get rid of vbox0, vbox1, vbox2, and vbox3.

I tried

Code: Select all

VBoxTunctl -d vbox0
It removed vbox0 till I rebooted. I'm not understanding where the entry is that causes it to run at system boot since it's not in /etc/network/interfaces.

And I don't fully understand /dev/net/tun . What kind of file is that? All I know is it's not a text file so I can't manually edit it but some of the mess I got into required me to chmod the permissions on that file.

Thanks for any help cleaning up my mess :-)

What about the reverse of the VBoxAddIF command, VBoxDeleteIF ;). You can remove the device with that. The config is saved in /etc/vbox/interfaces.
Read the Forum Posting Guide before opening a topic.
