[SOLVED] Ubuntu 20.04 stuck on start after update Windows 2004 & VB

Post by jeanninef »

Hello,

I'm a web developper and use 20+ machines to my projects. After update to Windows 2004 & VirtualBox Version 6.1.12 r139181 (Qt5.6.2), some of my machines refused to start. Apparently only for Ubuntu 20.04 because mahcines on Ubuntu 16.04 & 18.04 works fine...
I spend 2 days find on internet why, and after many VB & drivers reinstallation, nothings works.

It's really anoying because I've unstagged works on this machines, and can't backup. If I just can enter on VDI, I can backup it and create a new machine I thinks.

If someone have an idea.
Thanks in advance

EDIT : I try to install a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 from live server ISO, it crash with [drm:vmw_host_log [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to send host log message. and stop exactly at same position on VBox.log and VBoxHardening.log
EDIT2: If I switch graphic adapter to VBoxVGA installation wortks. So I try to change to my others machines, without success
EDIT 3: Installation of newmachines with Ubuntu 20.04 crash too..

RESOLVE : Ok, it's because I give a try to WSL2
I disable all service like explain here
(I can't submit link) follow by reboot, all works now.

Good on ya for finding the solution!

WSL2 enables Hyper-V. and Hyper-V interferes with Virtualbox.

The log shows Hyper-V still enabled. The way to check is to search the log for these words:

Attempting fall back to NEM

If these words are in your guest's vbox.log, Hyper-V is enabled. See HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active) <- this is a basic list version of the 64-bits link.

If your most recent log no longer has "Attempting fall back to NEM", then Hyper-V is off, and Virtualbox should be able to run nicely.
