Installing Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 Bit

Post by Pcbrewer »

I have been using VirtualBox for years and this is the first time I cannot get a virtual machine to run. I am running Virtualbox version version 6.1.12 r139181 (Qt5.6.2) and running on Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit with 32 gig ram. I am trying to get Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit installed. It starts Windows but the intro where the colors come together to make the logo are very slow. It then just sits there after that. It never goes to the install opitions. On a side note, I was able to get Windows 7 Pro 32 bit installed with no issues. Any help would be appreciated.

Disable Hyper-v. See FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests, especially posts #2 and later.

Thanks Mpack, I have gone through this document and it is still doing the same thing. One time after waiting a while it did start the install but failed saying requested files not available. Any other suggestions?

Start the guest from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Hyper-V is still enabled. You've missed something in the 64-bits tutorial. Everything we have on Hyper-V and getting rid of it is in that link. The 'bcdedit' command, properly executed, is often the silver bullet. Or see HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM (Hyper-V is active), which lays out a list of steps drawn from the 64-bits tutorial that seems to help some folks.

Finally got it! Thanks for all the help. I had to disable the Hyper - V using the command below:

DISM /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V

Thanks again!
