Hi guys,
my laptop (a Dell Precision M4800) running Windows 10 Pro crashes about 90% of the time when it is going to hibernation. The screen turns black, but it gets stuck there and keeps on running until it eventually (at least a couple of minutes later) turns off. You might think that it just takes really long to transition to hibernation, but when you restart it, it just boots up normally instead of waking from hibernation, so apparently the transition to hibernation failed.
I noticed that the indicator LED for Wi-Fi above the keyboard turns off while the laptop successfully transitions to hibernation, but this LED stays on when it gets stuck. So, if the laptop takes longer than about 30 seconds to hibernate and the Wi-Fi LED is still on, you can be pretty sure that it is stuck. This was the first cue for the problem to have something to do with networking. I checked the Windows event log and after every crash during hibernating, there is an event with the ID "8033" and the source "BROWSER". I don't know what exactly this event describes, but it seems to confirm my assumption of the problem being tied to networking.
I tried different things and ended up uninstalling VirtualBox, what resolved my issue. I then hoped that re-installing VirtualBox would not bring back the problem, but unfortunately it did.
So, bottom line is VirtualBox 6.1 seems to mess up networking on my laptop which in turn messes up hibernating. Because I have had this problem for a while now, the problem is not specific to version 6.1. It all started when I still had version 5 point something and a simple reinstallation does not fix the problem.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Googling this problem did not bring up any helpful results, so I guess this problem may not be as common.

The title of the topic is mis-titled. I changed it to reflect the multi-version report.Subsurf wrote:the problem is not specific to version 6.1. It all started when I still had version 5 point something
Try uninstalling Virtualbox, rebooting, then reinstalling without the Virtualbox Bridged networking option. See if you can hibernate then.
