Post by Navmex »

Hi, my virtual machine was working well, but after an update, it shows this error. My host is Arch. Any ideas?

Same with me. My Windows 7 VM was running ok until yesterday, and today I got the error.
The host is Arch Linux 64 bits, kernel 5.7.12-arch1-1, VirtualBox 6.1.12 r139181.

Here's the log:

That isn't the whole log. Regrettably the part that was chopped off is the part we need. Zipped logs fit.

Both, please start the guest from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

I didn't realize the first part of the log would be important, sorry. Here it is.
Thanks.

for ernani's log:
00:00:01.586469 VirtualBox VM 6.1.12 r139181 linux.amd64 (Aug 11 2020 08:53:49) release log
00:00:01.678040 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 6.1.0 r135406; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP)
Virtualbox and Extension Pack versions must match exactly. Uninstall the EP and get 6.1.12's EP from http://www.virtualbox.org.

Navmex, check if yourVB & EP versions match.

Hmm,. interesting. Does the guest run if you remove the EP and try without it?

No, it complains about the missing USB controller, among other things...

Disabling USB, it powered on. Could it be some problem with the extension?

Thanks.

The EP provides USB 2 & 3, so running without EP would require USB 1 or none in the guest.

So it's something related to the EP. Please try downgrading Virtualbox to 6.1.10, try the guest, then put in 6.1.10's EP, and try the guest again.

Well, since USB 1 is enough for this VM, I will keep VirtualBox with no EP untill the next update, and check if it gets solved.
Thank you, scottgus1.

Thank you scott for your support. The same happened to me as ernani. I tried to match VB 6.1.12 with EP 6.1.12 with the same error. I downgraded EP to 6.1.10 and then disabled it (EP) with USB controller. Now everything works as normal. I tried to downgrade VB to 6.1.10 but I saved a lot of time.
Thank you again scott for your help and ernani for your information. Hopefuly a new VB version can improve this.

I have the same problem on a Windows 10 VM running on a Manjaro Linux host, and the VM hasn't been running sind at least August 8th.

Switching back to USB1 works, but as I use USB passthrough it's not a good workaround.

Amorpheus, if one adds onto an existing topic, it is hoped that one has read the topic and tried the troubleshooting steps posted in the topic. What are your results?

1. Make sure version of extension matches the VirtualBox version.

2. You can check the VirtualBox version by opening VirtualBox Manager, then in Menu, Open Help >> About VirtualBox

3. Download/Install the Extension Pack for the VirtualBox version in Step 2.

Problem should be resolved now.
