Problems resizing VDI file

I am trying to resize a VDI file from about 80 gig to 100 gig.

This is the command I am using:
vboxmanage modifymedium "cloned.vdi" --resize 102400
(Note: vboxmanage is found in my PATH)

I don't get an error message. Instead I get the 0%---10%..... 100% message immediately.

However the file size stays at about 80 gig.

Please advise.
