NeuroDebian initial boot problem

Post by Bramcal »

Dear all,

I installed NeuroDebian (8.0.0; 64 bit) on my windows PC using the Oracle VM virtual Machine (Virtual Box 6.1) , but I am having problems with the initial booting.

I followed the installation steps on the neurodebian website.
After completing the set up I tried to start the virtual machine. A window pops up showing the boot process. Then following text appears on the screen:

“ Loading please wait. . .
Fsck from util-linux 2.25.2
/dev/sda1: recovering journal
/dev/sda1: clean, 87152/2498560 files, 641636/9985200 blocks
- “

Then the text disappears and only the – remains (flashing) on the screen.
I tried to restart the virtual machine, the computer, adjust the memory settings, ..., but I am not getting past this point.

One time I received an error message: A critical error has occured while running the virtual machine and the machine execution has stopped. (I attached the VBox log file ).

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

Thank you in advance!

Bram

thank you for the reply!
I was able to turn Hyper-V off and see the usual virtualization icon (see Image attached) in the Status Bar.
However, the initial booting is still getting stuck at the exact same point.

Your guest has 3D on and 32MB memory. It will probably need a lot more. Max that Video RAM slider all the way up.

Also Guest Additions is forked and really old:
00:00:30.812841 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 4.3.18 r96516 '4.3.18_Debian'
With 3D on, and quite likely with Virtualbox now five major versions ahead, the installed GAs need to be replaced. Use the Guest Additions ISO that comes with Virtualbox *, not the "apt-get" version from Debian.

* guest's Devices menu, Insert Guest Additions CD Image, run the installer in the guest's CD drive.
