Oracle Linux 7.4, 7.5, 8.0 all fail to install on VirtualBox

Hi
Appreciate any guidance that can be given.
I am trying to install Oracle Linux on VirtualBox 6.12 with the latest Guest additions.
The version of Oracle linux I am trying to install ranges from 7.4 to 8.0.
My laptop operating system is Windows 10.01
I have installed VBox and a Linux OS previously successfully, but for the past week I have not been able to.
If I choose the option to test the media before installing the same error is displayed: The media check is complete: FAIL. It is not recommended to use this media. See systemctl status for details.
The media has been downloaded from Oracle's edelivery software site, and I have download many versions, many times, so I doubt the media is corrupted.
If I skip the test and go straight to install I have success where I con configure the language, keyboard, hostname, kdump, etc.
As soon as I reach the point to create a password for the root user and create a new userI get a message: A critical error has occurred while runningthe virtual machine and the execution has stopped. Check vbox.log and vbox.png.
I've looked through the vbox.log file, I don't see anything to highlight the issue although admittedly I'm not a Linux Admin'r.
Any suggestions what might be the problem here or what I should look for in the vbox.log file? As I say, this is consistent, it occurs each and every time.
Regards
Andy

Pick one guest. Start the guest from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.
Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Hi Scott
Thanks for the response. I have uploaded the vbox.log before carrying out your suggestion (which I will do), just in case there is something already within this log file that I have missed.

Log file created after following instructions. I think it's similar if not the same output.

Your log contains these lines:
{timestamp} HM: HMR3Init: Attempting fall back to NEM: VT-x is not available
{timestamp} NEM: WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is TRUE, so this might work...
You might notice in the guest window's Status Bar the green turtle:

The choice of animal is appropriate: Your guest is running, just really slow. Or it might guru-meditate. This is because a service that uses Microsoft Hyper-V is running on your host PC. Normally Hyper-V blocks Virtualbox. But your PC is of the type and OS where Virtualbox can attempt to run the guest using the Hyper-V engine. This arrangement is still being developed and isn't 100% yet.
If VirtualBox is running without Hyper-V enabled, and nothing else is interfering with hardware virtualization (VT-x / AMD-V), then the usual virtualization icon (

) will be seen in the Status Bar.
To turn Hyper-V off completely, do this:
1. Shut down all programs. You will have to reboot your host.
2. See
I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests. This tutorial has a couple more things to look for in step 2. Be sure these are all turned off.
3. Find the Command Prompt icon, right click it and choose Run As Administrator.
4. Enter this command:
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
5. Enter this command:
shutdown -s -t 2
6. When the computer turns off, unplug it for 20 seconds. Then plug it in again and boot up Windows 10.
If your Virtualbox does not start successfully, zip and post another vbox.log. For further info, see

Hi Scott
Thanks for the response.
I have uploaded two new files. One is a screenshot which shows the VM being in a guru-meditate state, as you anticipated, and a screenshot of Hyper-V being enabled.
Since then I have done two things:
1. Stopped Docker running on my laptop (host)
2. Unchecked the Hyper-V option.
I tried creating a new machine, it did seem to get further but I still hit what is reported back as a 'bug'. Consequently I have uploaded the log file also for the newly created VM.
Can you continue to help me?
Thanks
Andy

The log still shows the telltale lines. Something requiring Hyper-V is still enabled. Try the 'bcdedit' command.
Images should be cropped and resized to get under the forum's 128kB size limit, then posted using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. (! took out the zip containing the Word docx with the images, which wouldn't be available to all who wish to see them.)

Hi
I ran the command bcdedit as suggested, and I followed the post displaying what hypervisor features to switch off. I still face the same problem. I will keep checking in the meantime but the only option I can think of is to perhaps remove/uninstall Docker for Windows, even though it is not running and can't run because of all the disabled features.

Hi
Just to let you know that I changed the iso file to an earlier version of Oracle Linux (7.4) V921569-01.iso and it all worked fine. I've no explanation and I know more upto date versions of Oracle Linux will work for others, but if you are like me and that is not an absolute requirement, you may find like I did that an earlier version will work for you.
Scott - thanks for your help.
Regards
Andy
