enp0s3 ethernet connecting (getting ip configuration)

Post by George64 »

Hi,
I need some help setting this up as it's all quite new to me so if someone has a spare moment can you advise or point me in the right direction please.
On my Windows8.1 desktop I have virtual box running a rhel linux machine but can't get an internet connection. I have tried to issue the ip add command (found on thesse forums) but get:
RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable

I have attached screenshots from virtualbox File/Host Network Manager plus the general network settings

The problem I suppose really Is that I have probably not set the network up correctly on the linux side :(

Any help gratefully received !

See Virtualbox Networks: In Pictures for the different network types Virtualbox provides.

To get an internet connection in the guest, use NAT, NAT network, or Bridged. Host-Only is a private connection between the guest and the ... wait for it ... Host only.

NAT is the easiest setup to get an internet connection to the guest..

Start the guest from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Also, right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show in Explorer. Zip the guest's .vbox file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

in the guest's Terminal, run 'ifconfig' or 'ip address', then post the command output.

In the host's command prompt, run 'ipconfig /all', then post the command output.
