I am running Lubuntu. When I start up VirtualBox (6.0), then launch my Windows 10 VM, I get the Windows flag, but then after that a black screen. I've tried repairing the installation, rebooting it, rebooting the host, and deleting the vm and creating a new one, to no avail. I have a feeling it is something with the underlying OS.

Start the guest from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks for the log. I don't see anything super-troublesome in it.

The host has four physical cores and the guest only one processor. Windows 10 likes 2 processors and your host has room. Sometimes 2 processors has freed up the guest 10 to run better.

You're running the Ubuntu fork of Virtualbox. That's common, and things ought to work. But if you have further trouble, forum gurus might ask you to use official Virtualbox from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads. The forks might gave changes we on the forum don't know about.

Reading the VBox.log file, I also didn't see anything problematic on its own, but I'll make an educated guess:

What is missing first in the VBox.log file is the start of the VirtualBox Guest Additions (GA), which includes the graphics driver. Another software component that has to do with displaying the VM is the VBoxVNC Extension Pack, which is Version 6.0.0 (VirtualBox is 6.0.14, GA are 6.0.13). I'd suggest to try and remove the VBoxVNC Extension Pack for a test.

droidus, the regular Extension Pack has to match the Virtualbox version, Your EP 6.0.0 is a tad out of date for the Virtualbox 6.0.14.

In addition to trying removal of the VNC Extension Pack, take out the 6.0.0 EP and replace if necessary with 6.0.14's EP.

This may sound crazy, but when I remove the network adapter, Windows 10 will NOT boot properly. When I re-attach the network adapter, Windows will then boot....
How can I get this working with a detached network adapter?
