Fail to Open Session under Win 10

Post by nullPointer »

I have had a VM working for about a week now and when I tried to open it today I got the following error message:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine 494 Test System

Details are as follows:
VMMR0_DO_NEM_INIT_VM failed: VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API_2 (VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API_2).
VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX).

Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this or what underlying issue may be?

Either your computer's "virtualization technology" (VT-x / AMD-V / SVM) is not on in the BIOS or Hyper-V is active.

Go through every step in I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.

You can add Acronis True Image backup software to your list of potential offenders. After removing it from my system my VM is back to loading and running just fine.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Thanks for the info, nullPointer! Strange that a backup software would interfere. I'll add a note in my personal list & ask folks to check for that too.
