Start the guest from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

(1)
Ubuntu-2020-07-28-10-01-49.rar
Crash Log File
(31.97 KiB) Downloaded 3 times
Attached the log.

One screenshot also attached for the crash. (Could not attach screenshot!)

This happens when the 3d Accel is selected, otherwise restart works.

Please review.

Another major problem is that after installing the Guest Additions 6.1.12, and after restart, the shared folders goes missing from the folders. I've to re-run the GA software again and every time to get the shared folders back in the folder listings!

Code: Select all

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 6.1.12 Guest Additions for Linux........
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Removing installed version 6.1.12 of VirtualBox Guest Additions...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-42-generic
Copying additional installer modules ...
Installing additional modules ...
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Starting.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel
modules. This may take a while.
VirtualBox Guest Additions: To build modules for other installed kernels, run
VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup <version>
VirtualBox Guest Additions: or
VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup all
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the modules for kernel 5.4.0-42-generic.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-42-generic
VirtualBox Guest Additions: Running kernel modules will not be replaced until
the system is restarted
Press Return to close this window...
Looks like the kernel is not replaced properly after restart.

Please help!
Thanks

Look slike the auto mount option does not work...

Need to run the command every time I reboot to access the shared folder:

sudo mount -t vboxsf VM_Shared /media/sf_VM_Shared/

A new Nvidia driver version for your host video was put out with a file that has a portion of its security signature incompatible with Virtualbox's hardening. (The jury is still out on whether it is Nvidia or Virtualbox at fault, or both.). Get on with Nvidia's help or forums.
