Setup language

Post by NA! »

I execute VBox setup on my Windows 10 English PC. In my profile, i have set the region and country settings to my native language (which is not English). When the setup is running, i see everything in my native language.

The question is why? My OS in English. I wish to see all setup messages in English. If i wished to see them in my native language, i would have setup Windows Display Language to be my native language.

This is a general issue i have with several setup programs, which wrongfully assume (without asking or giving an option) that since the user's region is "A", the setup must show everything in language "A". Is it possible to al least give the user an option to change the setup language?

The language selected by a guest OS installer is up to the guest OS installer. Do you expect a physical PC to dictate this kind of thing?

Nope, i'm not talking about the guest OS. I'm talking about the installation of VirtualBox itself. It depends on the Region and not the Windows Display Language (as it should IMO).

Ah, I see - now. The only reference to what you meant is the two words "VBox setup".

FWIW Virtualbox's installer is a Microsoft MSI program, so if you have any issues while Virtualbox is installing, it isn't Virtualbox but Microsoft's MSI system that is having the issue. This likely fits with:

A more suitable place to look is whether and why MSI installers ignore the language setting, if they in fact are, and there is not some other issue happening locally.
