macOS Guests on Ubuntu Host (Apple Hardware)

Hello,

I'm exploring options for a virtual macOS lab, and was hoping VirtualBox would be the solution. I'm currently running VirtualBox 5.2 (for phpvirtualbox compatibility) on an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS host. The host is a Mac Mini 8,1 so these guests will run on Apple hardware. Unfortunately, when I attempt to first boot a macOS Catalina VM, I get a kernel cache error (attached).

So I'm wondering, is it technically possible to host Catalina and newer macOS guests on a Mac Mini running Ubuntu, or should I look elsewhere for a solution?

Start the guest from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks. This was a fresh VM so there was no saved state. I was attempting to install Catalina from an iso. Your reply seems to indicate what I'm trying to do is technically possible, is that correct? If so, I'll set aside some time to start fresh and can provide logs if it's still broken once my host is re-setup.

I ended up giving up on this and ended up reinstalling macOS on the mini and running the macOS versions of Virtualbox and phpvirtualbox.
