[Solved] When I try to create a VM I get an error.

When I try to create a VM I get the following error:
Cannot create the machine folder Test Splunk in parent folder D:/VB/VMs

Please check the parent really exists and that you have permissions to create the machine folder.

I am on my admin account. I did not install or start virtual box as admin. What do I need to do to install VMs. This is not the drive with my OS this is a secondary hard drive that I installed VB on and where I want to store my VMs.

Thanks if you can help.

Virtualbox itself is only 250-ish MB at most and should be installed in the default 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox'. Installing Virtualbox in a different disk does not make your guests show up on that disk. The guests default to going in 'C:\Users\{you}\Virtualbox VMs', regardless of where Virtualbox is installed. To control where new guests get made, see the main Virtualbox window, File menu, Preferences, General tab, Default Machine Folder. Let the disk file be in the guest folder where the guest's .vbox file is located. This will facilitate easy guest backups.

Does 'D:\VB\VMs' exist? Can you make a new folder in 'D:\VB\VMs'? And while you're at it, is there a folder 'Test Splunk' in 'D:\VB\VMs'?

'D:\VB\VMs' should exist, you should be able to make new files in it, and 'D:\VB\VMs\Test Splunk' should not exist. Disregard the /'s in the error message. Virtualbox automatically uses \'s as required on Windows hosts.

Thank you, installing it on the drive with my OS worked. Yes the folders previously mentioned did exist but it was a valid question; thank you for all your help.

This thread can be closed, unsure how to do that.

Excellent! Glad you got it fixed.

Nothing needs to be done, unless you want to edit the first post and put a {SOLVED} before the title.
