Critical Error after installing Guest Additons

Post by Bazza1967 »

Trying to load windows xp image created from Shadow Protect backup. Windows start up was initially a BSOD. Disabling most devices in VirtualBox did not change. Error was driver_irql_not_less_or_equal.

Decided to install Guest Additions and now have error 'A critical error has occurred...'.

Was instructed to add Vbox.log and Vbox.png files however, I receive an error on this site that say file is too big.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

If you compact ('zip') the required files they should shrink to a file size that can be attached.

And unless the png contains something useful you can skip that part.

Also, a guest OS error doesn't imply a VirtualBox problem. In fact if this is a P2V then guest driver issues are expected: the VM is missing most of the hardware the XP image expects to see, and XP images are definitely not smoothly portable to new hardware. That said, it can be done. Google for "XP P2V site:forums.virtualbox.org".
