This is the first time I've received this message and it took forever to get to this point:

Code: Select all

PIIX3 cannot attach drive to the Secondary Master.
VBox status code: -40 (VERR_TIMEOUT).

Result Code: 0x80004005
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {d5a1cbda-f5d7-4824-9afe-d640c94c7dcf}
Which drive is it referring to? CD/DVD or my "virtual" hard drive?

If you searched a bit, and read the manual, you would know that the secondary master is always the cdrom. Your issue is that either the drive is not attached, has a disk in it or the ISO is no longer on the registered location.

Well I searched and saw that it was linked to the CDROM (or so I read), but nothing had changed in the configuration at all from the last successful boot ups so I was confused.

Hi Tristanlee85,

I had the same issue today. I'm running Fedora 9 and I've noticed some quirkiness since my latest update. So; I've never seen this issue before either. In the settings I disabled the CD-ROM just to check and see if that would do anything different - and it did. I can now run my VB.

Because of the quirkiness, I tend to do a complete shut down, in case there is a program still holding on to certain devices. I haven't figured out how to find that info yet.

So; it's definitely the the CD-ROM mount/setting. No permanent fix on my part though.

I noticed that since I've disabled mounting the drive I haven't had the issue since, but it's just odd that it was working and then stopped working without a change in settings. Oh well.

did you shut down your computer and try it again? For me, that's what fixed it. It seems like something still had a hold on my CD device. Once I shutdown the computer - that reset things and my virtualbox runs like it supposed to.
