Issue with USB

I run Linux Mint 19.3 host and a WIN 10 Guest.

I have run the Extension pack and all seems well. I am able to use the usb with my Win 10 Guest.

BUT...Some peculiar behaviour is seen.

1. If the USB is ticked in the VM settings, I get a black screen when I start my VM the first time.

If I remove the tick it boots up like normal.

Then once its booted up, I can select the usb from the devices menu and work with it.

However in closing the VM guest, the usb is auto mounted to Linux Mint when it is released from the VM.

If one just closes the screen and not unmount the USB drive, next time then VM starts up, it tries to auto scan the drive for errors during the VirtualBox boot process,

so here are my question(s)

1. Is the above normal behaviour of a USB in Virtualbox.

2. How does one prevent this auto scanning from happening ? Typical windows, if it needs to scan the drive every time, the drive is going to fall over very soon.

Is your Windows 10 guest booting from BIOS or EFI? (guest Settings, System, Motherboard tab, Extended Features)

Apparently, Virtualbox might be able to boot from a USB stick using EFI. (I was just able to get a guest to boot a Windows 10 install USB stick on an EFI guest. Once.)

If the USB stick is bootable in some way, then the guest might be trying to boot from it.
