Hi all

Host Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome desktop
VM Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome desktop

VirtualBox GuestAddition already installed

Copy and paste between Host and Client(VM) not working

Settings -> General -> Advanced
Shared Clipboard: [Bidirectional]
Drag'n'Drop: [Bidirectional]

It is very strange to me. Please help. Thanks in advance

Start the guest from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip it, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Thanks for your advice.

I suppose having made a mistake to install GuestAddition on Ubuntu repo.

I have created a new VM installing ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso on it. Afterwards I installed GuestAddtion provided on this ISO. Copy & Paste between Host and VM works without problem. After having added user to vboxsf sharing file between Host and VM also works.

Can I reinstall GuestAddition? How to delete the old GuestAddition? Or just reinstall the GuestAddition on ISO and the old GuestAddition will be deleted automatically.

Guest Additions from the bundled Virtualbox ISO works best with the official Virtualbox from www.virtualbox.org. The log would have showed whether official or forked Virtualbox & GAs were installed on your host & guest.

Sounds like you got something going now.

Start a new topic on how to install Guest Additions. I have trouble doing this too.

Actually I have a working Ubuntu 20.04 VM running here. On it I can install wordpress. For curiosity to find out the problem on that VM unable to copy & paste document between Host and Client-VM I continue. Attached to this posting please find the gz log file.
