VM crashed after update of guest additions 6.0 --> 6.1

Post by Michael M »

Hi everyone,
I'm using virtualbox for several years with nearly no problems. Now I wanted to move an older VM (generated and exported under virtualbox 6.0.10) to my new PC with virtualbox 6.1.10.
The import of the VM worked without any issues and the VM (ubuntu guest) started without any issues too. I was then prompted to update the guest additions. This worked fine as well. Then I shut down the VM. But when I restarted the VM it crashed after login on the guest with an application error (memory could not be read). I did the same procedure with another VM (similar to the first one, again an Ubuntu guest) with the same error.
Any ideas what went wrong?
Many thanks in advance!

Please change the display adapter type to vmsvga and try again. This should solve the problem. This bug has been fixed and will be available in the next release.
