VBoxManage error "NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)" migrating from virtualbox 5 to virtualbox 6

I am running VirtualBox on a headless Ubuntu Server & recently discovered that Ubuntu forks VirtualBox in their repos. I had, of course, naively installed with

apt install VirtualBox

which apparently installs a forked version! I am trying to migrate from the forked version to the Oracle version, but when I do I get an error:

VBoxManage: error: The virtual machine 'testVM' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1)
VBoxManage: error: Details: code NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005), component MachineWrap, interface IMachine

When I say "migrate" I mean "run a VM made with Ubuntu's VirtualBox by using Oracle's VirtualBox". I have made sure the host machines were rebooted between install/uninstall of VirtualBox and that the guest VM is in a "powered off" state (not "saved"). Is there anything else that needs to be done to migrate between versions like this?



Notes:
1) I have two headless Linux boxes, one running Oracle VirtualBox the other running the Ubuntu Fork. Versions are below:

2) These have different physical NICs. Please understand that if a

is run, the NIC will be different as a result.
