VM crashes with Aborted state

Post by a_s »

Linux guest keeps crashing under 6.1.x but works fine under 6.0.x. Crash log attached.

I have reported this issue in the bug tracker some time ago, no reaction so far.

Is there any recipe to avoid those crashes?

The guest seems to boot fine until about 55 seconds, then repeats this ad infinitum:
00:00:55.702865 OHCI: USB Resume
00:00:55.745778 OHCI: USB Operational
00:00:55.777745 EHCI: USB Operational
00:00:55.777965 OHCI: USB Suspended
00:00:55.793679 EHCI: USB Suspended
00:00:56.777760 OHCI: USB Resume
The log ends with these, not the usual log closing activity, so either the log was taken while the guest window was still open, or the Virtualbox environment totally went kablooey. If your guest Virtualbox window was still open, and the menu bar and status bar remained functional, then this seize-up appears to have been in the guest. The guest's USB system went south.

Were you trying to attach a USB device in the guest at the time?

Thank you for looking into this mess.

There are no additional USB devices were attached to the host or guest during this session. Log from the same guest running for 5+ hours just now full of the same USB output, however no USB devices attached as well.

Try installing the same OS in a new guest under 6.1.x, see what happens.

Guest OS is Ubuntu 18.04. Works stable with 6.0, however under new 6.1 crashed instantly. I rolled back to 6.0 for a couple of months until 6.1 matured slightly, and now guest can survive some time. I keep playing with different VM settings, however with so many of them still have no joy.

This exercise is not about finding the guest which works under 6.1, but about finding the right combination of settings for existing guest until devs fix this bug. Rolling back to 6.0 is the most efficient solution if nothing else helps.
