Ubuntu 16.04 Guest not seeing USB devices after upgrade

I have an Ubuntu 16.04 guest running on a Windows 10 host. Last night my IT group updated my VirtualBox to 6.1.8 r137981.

When I first started the upgraded program, I ran into an issue addressed by viewtopic.php?t=66442

Following the instructions in that post, I was able to boot by VM. Now my system boots but I am not able to see any USB devices. Devices that I had been able to attach to yesterday are no longer showing as available in the new version.

I have upgraded my guest additions pack to the latest.

I have rebooted my Windows machine.

All these devices are seen in the Windows Device Manager.

Any ideas as how to proceed?

Regards,
Doug Bailey

I had to reinstall VirtualBox to make the USB devices accessible to the guess. I guess the update process may have had a flaw.

hi, i have a problem when I upgraded 6.1.6 to 6.1.8 recently. I suspect the extension pack is the cause. So I uninstall both and reinstall the old version with the correct extension. In other word, i went back to the old version. I worked again.

can I know how do you reinstall. do you mean you uninstall the new version and reinstall the new version back?

Glitches do happen, and a reinstall can and does help. Glad you're up and running!

The Extension Pack version must be the same as the Virtualbox version. When you change Virtualbox versions, change the EP too.
