I have installed Ubuntu as a guest. When I start it with the CD booting after the hard drive I get a black window and nothing else.
Host Windows 7 64bit
Guest Ubuntu ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso
Version 6.1.4 r136177 (Qt5.6.2)
In the BIOS:
Secure Boot = Off
CSM = Enabled
Boot Mode = Auto
Boot Priority = Legacy First
I tried adding the Ubuntu ISO into CD's and Booted from Optical first.
When the first icon of Ubuntu showed I pressed the down arrow which gave me a menu.
I pressed F6 and chose nomodset. ESC, Booted from hard drive and it says:
"Booted from local disk"
"Boot failed: Press any key to retry"
If I change the CD to boot before the hard drive it asks me if I want to install Ubuntu.
I choose to install it and I get this screen that says it's installed.
Thank you,

If you have either boot order and boot without any CD in the guest's CD drive, what happens?

Re: I can't get Ubuntu installed and running
The log shows what appears to be a normal start, and as soon as it touches the hard disk it does nothing until you ask for the guest to power off. Virtualbox appears to continue to run, but nothing comes from the disk.
If switching the boot order was an attempt to troubleshoot why the guest was not booting to the hard disk as normal, put the boot order back to floppy > optical > hard disk.
Try a fresh guest. Let the guest OS automatically install itself, don't switch anything like the F6 'nomodest', or other such.

Re: I can't get Ubuntu installed and running
I have tried erasing what is on the hard disk and re-installing Ubuntu. I take all the default options. I still get a black screen.
Thanks for the reply...

Re: I can't get Ubuntu installed and running
It started working after leaving it on the black screen for hours.
