Hello,

I got this error code "E_FAIL (0x80004005)" no matter what I do. I already did some of the solutions online and it does not help.

Full error code:

E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Implementation of the USB 2.0 controller not found!
Because the USB 2.0 controller state is part of the saved VM state, the VM cannot be started. To fix this problem, either install the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' or disable USB 2.0 support in the VM settings.
Note! This error could also mean that an incompatible version of the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' is installed (VERR_NOT_FOUND).

Result code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Compontents:
ConsoleWrap
Interface:
IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

It seems to not get away by anything I did so far.

PLease help.

Thanks.

Open a command prompt and run these commands:

CD "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox"
vboxmanage showvminfo "your vm's name"

Copy the text of the output and post it here inside

Code: Select all

 tags.

Then zip the guest's .vbox file and post it using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

my computer is in UEFI mode and it gave me shit during any windows install. I had to make my workarounds even with basic Win10 install. Is it possible that this give me gimmick now?

Thanks!

The error mentions a saved state but the showvminfo shows powered off, not saved-state. I'm puzzled. Will have to stay tuned while a forum guru enlightens both of us....

Did you check on the extension pack? The Virtualbox and EP versions must match exactly.

Yeah man it just sucks.

I tried to launch my vm 4 times in 3 different machines (all UEFI tho) and I have no success.... Its phuking frustrating at this point.

You didn't answer the question about the Extension Pack.
Did you install it (in the correct version) as the error message is telling you?

That's possible, for example if the saved state was part of a snapshot.

4thestarz, please give us the text outputs of these commands:

CD "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox"
VBoxManage -version
VBoxManage list extpacks

Another post between yesterday and today had the same USB error but it ended up not being a problem once the fixes were placed and the guest started running.

If at all possible we will need a vbox.log if one gets made. Please try to start your guest again, If it boots then you're good. If an error appears, check if there is a vbox.log in the guest folder's logs folder. Zip and post it using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Hello ScottGus,

Version is 5.2.40r137108 (please keep in mind that I downgraded from the latest version as I read in a tutorial to try that in case of this error. Obviously it didnt help)

2nd command:

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>Vboxmanage list extpacks
Extension Packs: 1
Pack no. 0: Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack
Version: 6.1.6
Revision: 137129
Edition:
Description: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure integration, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 Host Controller, Host Webcam, VirtualBox RDP, PXE ROM, Disk Encryption, NVMe.
VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP
Usable: false
Why unusable: Failed to load the main module ('C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\ExtensionPacks\Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack\win.amd64\VBoxPuelMain.DLL'): VERR_SYMBOL_NOT_FOUND - GetLastError=127

Thanks!

Thanks for your help Scott, I figured it out.
Basically I downgraded my virtualbox but installed the extension pack for the newest version... That was the problem, now my kali works.

All the best

Extension pack version is supposed to match Virtualbox version. Expect trouble eventually.
If you don't need the features of the extension pack, you can uninstall it.

Glad you're running, though eventually a Virtualbox upgrade will be needed. Regrettably, I'm fuzzy on how to troubleshoot this further, at least with out a box.log. (and maybe even with one... )

I just deleted quite a few "me too" hijacks from this topic.

0x80004005 is a generic wrapper error code, you need to look deeper to get the precise error. In the case of the OP it was "Implementation of USB 2.0 not found!". Not everyone who sees "E_FAIL (0x80004005)" in fact has the same error, so please stop hijacking someone else's topic to discuss your different problem (and even if you had the same problem then we already discussed it!). Of course the topic title invites more of these "me toos", so I'm locking this now to prevent it.

In fact... I'm also going to change the topic title to better reflect the question asked.
