VDI Resize not working on version 6.1.6 r137129 (Qt5.6.2)

Hi all,

First of all, I've tried to search in the forum without success. I need to resize my Windows10 VM from 30 to 50 GB and I come to the web to search how to do it.

I've found many articles using the command

VBoxManage modifyhd "xxxxx.vdi" --resize XXXX

It seems to work in the command line, no error found, but after power on the VM machine again, there's no change itself. If I go to Disk Management I didn't get any unallocated unit space where to expand the Hard Drive.

After some more research, I've tried also with command:

VBoxManage modifymedium "xxxxx.vdi" --resize XXXX

But once the VM is powered again, I have the same scenario. In the machine description, the HD space has been changed but nothing happens inside the VM.

I've also tried to add an adicional HD just to test. In this case, I've been able to expand its initial space to something higher without any issue. Both HDs are from the same type, so I don't understand why I'm not able to expand the VM HD.

I've tried again with the VDI disk I really wanted to expand, now from 50GB to 70GB with the same result. It changes in the machine description but nothing happens inside the VM. Now the Machine description shows 70GB HD but I'm still with 32 GB inside the VM.

I just want to know if I'm able to do anything to solve this to avoid having to rebuild the entire VM again.

Thanks for your time.

Marc.

PD: The form does not let me to upload some screenshots

FAQ: How to resize a Virtual Drive.

Note step 2, and what it also says about snapshots.

Hi mpack!

Thank you so much for your fast reply.

I've proceded to delete all the existing snapshots and after that I've tried to run the command again, now with Success!

I was not aware that Snapshots are blocking the resize to success.

I really appreciate your help.

Cheers,

Marc
