OK, I am a newb at this.
I want to increase the size of a .vdi.
I have tried virtual media manager with no success.
The slide is greyed out
I have tried on multiple .vdi's.
When I created the .vdi, I used fixed size when creating the drive.
How do I increase the drive size?
Why does virtual media manager not work for me?
VB ver 6.0.20

Therein lies your trouble. Fixed size disks cannot be increased. Clone the disk using the Copy command in the Virtual Media Manager, then increase the clone's size and swap in the clone on the guest.

Note that you will have to manually increase the partition size inside the drive so the guest will be able to see the extra space. How you do this is not part of Virtualbox, but Google Gparted.

I understand you're a noob, but why do noobs seek out the worst possible advice to create a first VM? Why not just go with the software defaults, which presumably are there for a reason?

And then, having selected fixed size for no valid reason at all you compounded it with the classic error: frightened of choosing a large size, you made the disk too small. Had you simply selected dynamic VDI to begin with then it would be no larger than it needed to be.

To clone a drive do you use copy?
If you copy, is it then expandable?
I am trying copy with dynamic size selected.
I do not see a clone option.
Could you please set out the steps to increase the size.
I used fixed size in all my VM's, apparently this is incorrect.
I figured 64gb for an linux os that is not used for anything but testing and has no personal/usable files would be sufficient.

The copy should be dynamic and then resizable.

Turns out is a different problem than the size of the drive.
It is the boot sector of the drive that is at 100% capacity.
That is way beyond my knowledge set.

Mine too, sorry I can't help on that one.

Google how to fix a full boot sector. I surmise that the way you'd fix it on a real PC is how you'd fix it in the guest.
