Audio issue - Win 10 Host

Dear All,

I was hoping to get some help regarding my weird issue. The sound suddenly stopped working last night and still can’t get it to work.

When it happened last night I was mucking around with Kali on Virtual Box. The audio in VM was set to emulate host system default (AC97, I think) and headphones were connected to the host PC via Bluetooth. Not sure if relevant but I did a full system upgrade on Linux and then restarted the VM, that’s when a pop up came up asking if I had issues with audio on Windows 10?

What I’ve tried so far:
  • Restarted relevant services through both cmd and services.msc
  • Upgraded, uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers – Realtek.
  • Tried Win 10 default sound drivers.
  • System scan and repair DLL’s
  • Ensured audio services point to correct path through regedit.
  • Latest windows drivers applied
  • Safe mode
  • Disabled Hyper-V and uninstalled all VM related services and programs.
  • Ensured sound card is still enabled through BIOS
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled all codecs.

Currently all services are running but when troubleshoot runs it states that “audio services are not responding”. I don’t want to reformat so hopefully this is something you guys can help with. I will begin backing up this evening just in case anyway.

Best regards,

**UPDATE**

I wasn't able to solve this weird issue. I suspect it has something to do with emulating sound card and / or bluetooth clash...somehow.

I had to go back to a system restore point to resolve it and now I'm reluctant to reinstall VB.

Cheers.
