Can't get printer to show up in XP guest

Post by DCE »

Hi,

I just got a new printer and it doesn't show up in my XP guest.

- Version 6.0.20 r137117 (Qt5.6.2)
- host = Win10 home
- guest = XP Professional 32 bit
- printer is connected to router via cable.
- Network » Adapter 1 » Bridged Adapter
- printer = Brother MFC-L5850DW

Problems:
1) I can't get the printer to show up in XP.
2) Manufacturer's driver installation won't install in XP. I get this message: "This application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"

Is there a solution to get this printer to work in my XP guest?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Solved by adding a printer via TCP/IP Port in WinXP

Windows XP:
Click Start->Printers and Faxes (Windows XP). This is also in the control panel.
Click Add a printer.
Select Local printer attached to this computer (XP).
Select Create a new port: and select Standard TCP/IP port from the pop down.
Click Next.
Windows XP will launch a wizard to add the TCP/IP Port.
Click Next.
Enter the hostname or IP address of the printer.
If Windows is unable to find the printer, make sure it is on and that the hostname is correct.
Click finish.
Select the driver from the list or click Have Disk if the driver is not in the list. You can check \\winsoft\drivers or the manufacturer's website for the drivers.
Enter a name for the printer.
Print a test page to make sure it installed properly.
