Ubuntu starting problem: Started session c58 of user gdm

Hi,

I followed the instructions on [1] as I had only some MB remaining disk space:
Now I cannot start Ubuntu anymore, I get the message:

[OK] Started User Manager for UID 121.
Stopping User Manager for UID 121...
Starting User Manager for UID 121...
[OK] Started session c58 of user gdm. 
 

And Ubuntu gets stuck here. I restarted the computer several times, waited for a long time. Nothing happens. Any idea what I can do?

First, let's see if something else may not be causing this. Start the guest from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please right-click the guest in the main Virtualbox window's guest list, choose Show Log. Save the far left tab's log, zip the log file, and post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

Please state what exact steps you took. If you followed one of the procedures in the post, state exactly what you did, not just what the post told you to do.

Also please state also if you followed this part of the above tutorial:

backup the *.vdi file before you start.
