Kali Linux Wont start on Virtual Box VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX).

Hi,

I have installed Kali Linux on a Windows 10 ASUS laptop, under the Virtual Box Hypervisor V6.1

On attempting to start Kali Linux, I get the following error:

VMMR0_DO_NEM_INIT_VM failed: VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API_2 (VERR_NEM_MISSING_KERNEL_API_2).
VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX).

I checked the BIOS, and the details are:

Bios Type: American Megatrends
Version: 214
VBIOS Version: 2119 I13UX3.011
CPU Type: Intel Core i7, 2677M CPU @ 1.80GHZ
Total Memory 4096

BIOS Settings applicable to Virtualisation

Intel Virtualization Technology [Enabled]
VT-D [Enabled]

Windows 10 Professional software settings:

Hyper-V
Hyper-V Management tools Enabled
Hyper-V Platform Enabled
Windows Hyper-V User platform enabled.

Windows updates have nothing outstanding, all updates are installed
Windows version is 1909

Unfortunately everything I have tried on this machine fails to allow Kali Linux to start, following the installation of a Virtual box, Kali Linux ova file which is kali-linux-2020.1-vbox-amd64.

The forums I have seen seem to suggest that Virtual Box supports VT-D, so I am not really sure why Virtual Box refuses to allow Kali Linux to start?

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Hyper-V and VirtualBox don't play nice together, because Hyper-V grabs VT-x for its exclusive use. See the numerous threads in the Windows Hosts Forum including viewtopic.php?f=6&t=90853.

Hi multios,

Many thanks my friend, you were quite right as soon as I disabled Hyper-V in Windows and rebooted it started without issues, just got to find the latest password for Kali now
