Start the guest from full power off, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the guest from within the guest OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the guest with the Power Off option set.

Please zip and post a guest vbox.log, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab.

There have been some reports of the data on a good ISO failing to be read correctly for a guest install, or guest updates not running correctly, possibly due to hashes not being made correctly.

Can you please uninstall Virtualbox, and the Extension Pack if you have it, and install 6.1.2? See if you can install the guest OS correctly. If not, go back to 6.1.0 or 6.0.14. If 6.1.2 is good, please then upgrade to 6.1.4 and try a new install in a new guest

Ok just to update i uninstalled 6.1.6 and installed 6.1.0

This brought me further grief which transpired i needed to check 4 services were stopped in Windows10

Hyper-V
Virtual Machine Platform
Windows Hypervisor platform
Container

Once these were stopped i have now managed to install linux mint without it crashing which is some good news thankyou. I am now wondering if it was those services all along interfering but less so on 6.1.6 just causing strange crashing further into install.

On the downside it's now ruined my chances of running Docker in parallel as i have disabled the list above preventing it from running which it seemed i could before with 6.1.6 any pointers here? THankyou.

Interesting, you might have had Hyper-V enabled? That might have interfered. It does interfere in other ways.

Can you please look into the Logs folder of the guest, and zip the whole folder? Then please post the zip file, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. I would like to see if an earlier 6.1.6 attempt log still exists. If so, it would say if Hyper-V was enabled or not.

Now that you have the install, you can re-upgrade to 6.1.6. It would also be interesting if you could try another install of the guest OS in a new guest after upgrading.
