Problems with Virtualbox on Ubuntu

Post by Mr.Green »

Hi all,
since version 2 has been released, i have several problems with VirtualBox:
1) the virtual machine can't be saved properly; sometimes it works, but sometimes the progress bar disappears after reaching 100%, but the virtual machine is still showing (it is grey, but the window doesn't disappear). Only possibility is to kill the VirtualBox, which results in loosing the saved state.

2) I use windows within the VM, and it freezes. Even after a clean startup it justs hangs; I can do some mouse activity, but it costs me minutes to wait for an application to load.
The windows-TaskManager says the CPU load is <10%, so this can't be the reason for lagging.

With the older version it just worked fine :(

There is bug in 2.X for Linux that causes VM lock-ups as the host's uptime hits exactly five minutes. So, after you reboot your host, make sure to wait at least five minutes before starting a VM. Maybe that will fix your problem #2.

I don't know much about your problem #1.

There's a thread about the second problem you mention, with more information. :)

i have the same problem #2

haven't used Windows in VB yet as it hangs or freezes all the time. Or the desktop comes out but without the buttons or shortcuts. Can not right click. Can not see the start up menus. To solve it, I reinstalled virtual bos with the updates and all the tweaks. Remains to be seen. 8)
