So I have windows XP installed and I installed Ubuntu inside windows so i'm not sure how the partitioning works.

So my question is, if I install VirtualBox in windows, would i have to reinstall Ubuntu? Or is there a way to get VirtualBox to see the partition and just run it?

Thanks

ade214, welcome to our forum. You might want to take this opportunity to browse the Forum Posting Guide. This contains some useful tips on how to search for VBox knowledge and how to frame Qs.

There's a general reading list in the first forum if you want to know more about how Virtualisation works. Your Ubuntu configuration is stored and a virtual file system inside a virtual disk, and this is actually in a VDI file inside your Document and Settings\yourUser\.VirtualBox folder hierarchy.

No, you have to boot this from inside a VBox VM. If you want to boot Ubuntu from "BareMetal" then this is what is called a dual boot configuration. If you research from the forum and other internet resources you will find lots of discussions on dual boot vs. VM boot.
