Hello all,

I have been having ongoing video issues for quite a while. I think it started when I upgraded to V6.x but I'm not sure.

I'm running virtualbox on a Windows 10 host.

My Windows and Linux guests used to remember the last "size" the video was resized to during the previous session and would start at that "size". Resizing worked with no issues on all quests.

Ever since I upgraded the video has been all screwed up.

Linux VM guests
1) Linux guests seem to always start at 800x600.
2) Sometimes I can resize the window and they will resize other times the window resizes but the VM does not.
3) I can usually resize the VM in the guest but only to the resolutions the guest thinks are available.

Windows guests
1) Windows guests always start at a smaller resolution than previously used (didn't check what res that is).
2) Resizing the window usually works but sometimes it hangs the VM.

Has anyone been able to get a stable working solution with V6.x?

I really don't want to go back to V5.x but is that possible?

I've had the same problems going to 6.1.6...I will say that 6.1.2 is the only reliable version for me, so you shouldn't have to roll back to 5.x. FYSA, beware of 6.1.4, it's not any better.

1. What is your host GPU? Are drivers up to date?
2. What GPU mode do you use in VM? Did you install Guest Additions?

I do not see any such problem. Win10 and Win7 hosts, work flawlessly, both.

1. Dual GPUs: D530 & Nvidia M2000M. Of course drivers are up to date .
2. Attempted w/ VMSVGA, VBoxVGA, and VBoxSVGA w/ and w/o 3D Accel. Attempted multiple configs. And again Of Course with GA and Extensions.
3. Win 10 Pro Host w/ I7-6920HQ ... No resize issues on VB 6.1.2

The only time I've seen your display problem in 'Linux' (apart from an actual 'bug' in a specific VirtualBox release) is when the Guest Additions have not been correctly installed, which, for most Linux Distros, has to be done via the command line after the Guest Additions iso has been loaded.

The precise instructions for installation can vary between Dstros, e.g. there are some differences between Debian-based and Arch-based distributions, so it's often best to check the specific instruction via their websites. Commands must be input using 'sudo' as elevated (root) privileges are required to complete the install successfully. Unfortunately you didn't say which Linux Distro you have installed, so can't be more specific.
