Unable to run Windows Server 2019 and 2016

Post by TGtech »

I have tried setup Windows Server 2019 and 2016 for the first time in my laptop but it failed. No matter how I updated my Windows 10 or make changes based on other people suggestion but still doesn't work.

For Windows Server 2019, VB showed Guru Meditation state. I have attached the logs. Where else for Windows Server 2016, it's failed during server installation with error 0x80070570 as following.

Is anyone facing same issue as mine before? Can share what wrong with my laptop?

Thank you very much!

00:00:04.230587 Host RAM: 8072MB (7.8GB) total, 2081MB (2.0GB) available
00:00:04.443788 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000080000000 (2 147 483 648, 2 048 MB)

You don't have enough free RAM to run this VM. Try to free some more RAM before starting the VM
Also I don't know if Windows Server 2019 will run with only a single CPU and 2GB RAM.
You could try to configure the guest with 2 vCPU, but that won't be very performant on your system with only two cores / four threads.

Thanks Martin. I've tried to close other applications and open VB where my RAM usage only at 3GB. It's still the same issue when I start the VM. I've attached the screenshot and latest logs.

Fyi, I also increase my guest to run in 2 cores. Thanks.

What other programs were running on the host? Why does your 8G machine only have 2G available?

Because this is my working laptop, so I will use Chrome, Ms Outlook, Skype and other applications for work purpose. But most of the times won't use till left 2GB, like now there are more than 7 applications opening and the usage is 4.8GB out of 7.9GB.

Windows Server, like Windows 10, really needs at least 2G of memory and two processors to run properly. They both run well for me, but my machine is a desktop with an i7-7700 and 16G and is lightly loaded.

I have just installed Server 2019 Eval again to check that it works. It does.

I would try the install again out of hours when the PC is less busy. Failure at that point is unusual, unless the installation media is faulty.

I was followed a video tutorial on the guest setup that using single core and 2GB RAM. The lecture in video also running successfully.

The same ISO using in my own laptop working fine too. Just not sure why my working laptop (i7 with 16GB RAM), seems like VB unable to run correctly with any guest. The logs showing failed reason only the memory issue?
