I'm facing this current problem , noting I didn't change anything , only Windows updates, I also have spent few hours on this item with following items attempted:
1) Install and enable Hyper-V : I get the below Error
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Networking machine.
WHvCapabilityCodeHypervisorPresent is FALSE! Make sure you have enabled the 'Windows Hypervisor Platform' feature. (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE).
VT-x is not available (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX).
Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
2) Uninstall Hyper-V and disable hardware acceleration in the setting of the VM ,I Still get the same error.
3) the Ok button to save my settings was always disabled , until I was able to change settings using a different PC, then copied the files back to my PC , and it was enabled again!
I have attached the log file , hope this helps

Read the related FAQ: FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.
Also, you don't have enough RAM available to afford 4GB to this XP VM, which in any case doesn't need it. My first XP machine in the real world had 128MB. I later upgraded it to 256MB. 2048MB would have been undreamt of luxury - and is no doubt way plenty for your VM as well.
