Share VPN connection

Post by Horvitch »

Hi,

to I'm trying to share my WiFi (and thus VPN) on a Windows host running Virtualbox. I'm using this tutorial on how to share VPN via WiFi on Windows.

However I just get the following error message when trying to set up the wireless access point:

Image

Is this error (The hosted network couldn't be started) caused by Virtualbox?

The vm does not have any wireless adapters, so I can't see that working.

Can't your vm use the host's Internet connection using the default (NAT) option?

From the linked tutorial I surmise that the error comes from the batch file's use of 'netsh wlan'. This is not a Virtualbox error message.

If you are running this batch file and tutorial on the host, then you could try uninstalling Virtualbox, to test if Virtualbox is interfering with the batch file. Your guests and configurations will remain behind ready to use if you want to reinstall Virtualbox.

If the batch file works when Virtualbox is uninstalled but fails when Virtualbox is present, try installing Virtualbox without Bridged or Host-Only networking (see the options in the Virtualbox installer).

If you are running the batch file in the guest, then that's a non-starter, since as Bill says, there's no Wi-Fi adapters in a Virtualbox guest.
