DHCP won't work on server

Hello,

I have created a Windows environment using Virtualbox.

I currently have a Windows Server and Windows 10 Enterprise Edition.

I created the DHCP role for my server and added a reservation for the Windows 10 virtual machine. The problem I'm having is that after making the reservation (e.g. .15) when I go to my windows 10 virtual (which I already joined to the domain)
it does not take the reserved DHCP and just picks some other IP address.

Can someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

I currently have both windows environments set to NAT ONLY and made sure I turned off the DHCP checkbox in the virtualbox preferences.

If "NAT ONLY" means each guest is on "NAT" and not NAT network or another choice, then your setup will not work. See Virtualbox Networks: In Pictures. You will want NAT network or Host-Only (disabled DHCP for either) for your setup.

Hey Scott, I set up two virtual machines in virtualbox. one is windows 10 enterprise and the other is server 2016. I have a DHCP server role set up and made a DHCP reservation for my windows 10. However, when I try to release the old IP and renew it, it stays with the old IP. When I look at the DHCP reservation, it shows "inactive". I made sure to make both networks to nat network. do you know know what it might be?

First, check if you can ping between the guests on the network (you might have to undo some of the changes you made to get back to a default configuration, and Windows firewall defaults to blocking ping). If you can ping, that means the Virtualbox network is working, and the DHCP problem is not caused by Virtualbox. Pretend that Virtualbox is not involved and the guests are just two PCs networked. Solve with web-searches, etc. Sounds like a normal networking configuration issue.

Scott, I finally got it to work.

and you were right, it was networking issues. I had forgotten to turn off the second network in one of the vMs and now both vms, are set to nat network only. I also went into v-box settings and turned off the DHCP options checkbox.

Thanks again for your help!
